St. Brigid's & St. Patrick's National School, located on Bóthar Brugha in Drogheda, has a proud history rooted in the education of local children. Originally, two separate schools served the community: St. Brigid’s Girls’ National School and St. Patrick’s Boys’ National School.
St. Brigid’s GNS was established in 1956 to educate girls, promoting values of kindness, learning, and community spirit. St. Patrick’s BNS, founded in 1953, focused on providing a strong foundation for boys in both academics and character development.
In 2014, a decision was made to amalgamate the two schools. This change came predominantly in response to the need for a modern, co-educational and vertical approach to primary education. The process involved careful planning to ensure a smooth transition for staff, pupils, and families. The new school was formally opened in 2016 as St. Brigid’s & St. Patrick’s National School under roll number 20508B.
The amalgamation brought the strengths of both schools together, creating a single, inclusive learning environment for boys and girls. The school continues to honour the traditions of its predecessors while introducing updated facilities and teaching practices to meet modern educational standards.
Today, St. Brigid’s & St. Patrick’s NS is a thriving part of the Drogheda community, offering a balanced and supportive education. It remains dedicated to fostering academic success, creativity, and personal growth, while celebrating the legacy of its origins. The school’s combined history reflects its commitment to adapting and growing for the benefit of future generations.
